CARL Piergianni will have a late fitness test after being rested against Leeds United Under 21s in midweek.

The Latics captain missed the Papa John's Trophy tie after playing through an injury in recent weeks.

The defender has been carefully monitored this week ahead of Saturday's home game against Harrogate Town.

And head coach Keith Curle said he would be assessed in training tomorrow to see if he would be available for selection.

"He's got one more training session that he's got to try to get through tomorrow," said Curle.

"He's played every minute of every game, he's trained every minute of every single training session and (Tuesday) was an opportunity to take a rest."

Young left back Benny Couto is also doubtful after being diagnosed with tonsillitis, but will be assessed in the run-up to the game.

Curle is, however, pleased with the progress Harrison McGahey has made since making his debut at Rochdale last week following injury and contractual issues.

"Harrison got through Saturday's game well and did well in the game, it's important then that he got another 90 minutes' competitive football (against Leeds U21s), which is better than a training session for Harrison at the minute because he's been starved of that competitiveness," said Curle.

"It's excellent that he got through another 90 minutes."
