LATICS legend David Eyres says if he won £100million on the Euro Millions lottery he would use half of it to buy Oldham Athletic, such is his strength of feeling towards his old club.

The former winger, who spent six years at Boundary Park before retiring, told The Oldham Times that it breaks his heart to see the club in such dire straits.

But with unpopular owner Abdallah Lemsagam last week revealing he was listening to offers for the club and prepared to sell after four years at the helm, Eyres hopes it will not be long before they see the green shoots of recovery.

Eyres wishes he was in a position to make Lemsagam an offer.

But should he hit the jackpot he knows exactly how he would spend some of his windfall.

"The club's in turmoil at the minute and it breaks my heart to see what's going on," he said.

"I wish I had a magic wand or the finances to make it all better.

"If I won £100million on the Euro Millions I would use £50m to buy the club and rebuild it.

"I would get someone in to run it for me, and I'd just sit in the directors' box and watch the football, but that's what I'd do."

He added: "You would think there is someone out there, some wealthy business person.

"Oldham, I believe, is a catch for anyone who has got the money who is looking for a project - a club that has been in the Premier League with a loyal fan base.

"It's one of those clubs if it gets going again it could be rocking.

"It is a sleeping giant.

"I've got a lot of time and affection for the club. I really hope they stay in the Football League and hopefully the supporters start getting some enjoying back."
