ROUGHYEDS will not head to Championship leaders Toulouse on Saturday.

The game has been officially cancelled by the Rugby Football League after it was confirmed that France would remain on the Government’s amber list of countries for foreign travel.

A 10-day quarantine period is needed on returning to the UK and part-time clubs in the Championship had already been told they would not be forced to play games in those circumstances.

Crucially Oldham’s game has been cancelled, not postponed, as there is no alternative date available between now and the end of the season.

The same goes for Newcastle Thunder’s rearranged trip to the south of France, which had been set for July 17.

With fears over games not going ahead amid the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided at the start of the season that the table would be decided by win percentage and not points, Roughyeds now not able to complete their full allocation of fixtures.

An RFL statement read: “Following the UK Government’s latest review of foreign travel guidelines, which comes into effect this week, the RFL has confirmed further impact on Toulouse Olympique fixtures in the Betfred Championship.

“With France remaining on the amber list, and a 10-day quarantine period therefore required for all on return to the UK, Toulouse’s home match against Oldham scheduled for July 3 has been cancelled – as there is no available match slot for a rearrangement between then and the end of the regular season in September.

“Similarly, the fixture between Toulouse and Newcastle Thunder, which had been rescheduled for July 17 having been postponed on May 29, has also been cancelled.

“The RFL will await the next Government update in July before decisions are made about the four remaining home fixtures scheduled for Toulouse between July 24 and September 11.”

Roughyeds, second from bottom, faced a tall order against pace-setters Toulouse, Matt Diskin’s men having lost their last seven games in an increasingly concerning run of form.

Oldham will now not be back in action until they host Bradford Bulls at Bower Fold on Sunday, July 11.
