Land in Oldham which was on sale for just £1 has seen people bidding staggering sums to get their hands on the more than five acres of land in Greenfield.

The plot on Tunstead Lane consisted of two fields an was listed on Rightmove by Shaw estate agency Cornerstone Estates & Lettings.

While the deadline for offers was yesterday (May 1), a spokesperson for Cornerstone explained how the business was "inundated" with calls and received a "barrage of emails" after The Oldham Times previously reported it had gone up for sale.

The listing read: "This land is split over two fields and has never had planning permission applied for, although period stone built residencies are in close proximity.

"Both plots have access via farm gates. One is currently used for grazing, small income, whilst the other has a timber built girl guide hut which has water supply and is on a solid foundation.

"Offers invited, deadline for offers with proof of funding by 1st May 2024."

It continued: "Discover the untapped potential of Saddleworth where picturesque landscapes meet promising investment opportunities.

"With it's charming rural setting and proximity to urban amenities, investing in land here offers a lucrative investment for growth and development."

As of Monday (April 29) bids had exceeded £100,000, Cornerstone confirmed.

The first of the two fields is 2.6 acres of land and has road access on two sides, a nearby Tunstead cottage and other stone built residences.

While the second field, has a girl guide hut located on it, on solid foundation, and is complete with water supply.

The listing added: "This site has been used for camping and overlooks 'pots and pans' monument. Accessed via a non-serviced lane."
