A gym in Oldham appears to have been battered by Storm Jocelyn overnight as bricks and debris can be seen littering the path and road.

Heavenly Bodies Fitness Club on Ripponden Road is the latest to fall victim to the harsh weather in the borough.

Vicious winds last night (Tuesday, January 23) caused by Storm Jocelyn has caused some hefty damage to the building.

A photograph snapped outside the premises shows crumbled bricks had fallen from the building during the vicious winds.

Debris can be seen littering the pavement and has fallen into the road which sits opposite the Moorside Co-op building.

The Met Office warned the storm would bring heavy rain and strong wind throughout Tuesday day and evening, adding that rain could result in flooding while the wind presents a risk of damaging some buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

The news comes as Storm Isha almost prompted the collapse of an opticians in Oldham town centre over the weekend.

On Sunday (January 21), emergency services were called to reports of a building at risk of collapsing on Yorkshire Street.

A photograph of the scene showed John Clegg Opticians signage and shop front had come away from the main structure of the building and the danger of it falling down saw emergency services close the road.

Oldham Council said it is also aware that the gym building has been affected but that the road remains open.

A spokesperson said: "The Council received a call last night that a building had been damaged due to the high winds.

"Our First Response team attended and made the area safe, this included removing masonry from the road.

"Our Building Control team will be attending today."
