The following planning applications relate to some of the biggest development stories in Oldham over the past fortnight.

Oldham Mumps building to become cafe and homes

A ‘distinctive’ building in Oldham Mumps is due to be transformed into a cafe and 21 new homes.

The three-story building will get a makeover inside and out, with the ground floor set to be occupied by three flats, while the 18 others will be on the first and second floors.

The developers hope to regenerate the building which is in "disrepair" by saving it from becoming derelict.

The building sits adjacent to the tram and bus stops in the town centre.

New takeaway replacing house

A four-bedroom home in Oldham which sits next to a chicken shop will be converted into a takeaway and an apartment.

The property on Featherstall Road North, which is attached to Oldham Fried Chicken, will see the ground floor be converted into a takeaway and dining area with four seating booths.

Meanwhile, the upper floors would make way for a two-bedroom flat with a lounge, kitchen and bathroom on the first floor and the two bedrooms and toilet on the second floor.

Plans for 'oppressive' HMO rejected

A proposal build a house in multiple occupation (HMO) has been refused for being 'oppressive' to neighbours.

The plans sought to build a three-storey building on a plot of land on Godson Street, which would have five bedrooms, three of which would be made available for two people each.

A mixed response from residents saw some saying it would attend to the "unkempt" lands, while others raised parking concerns and said the building would be "too high".

The application was rejected on behalf of Oldham Council on the grounds that the building "would result in a loss of privacy" and present an "oppressive outlook" for nearby residents.
