An Oldham teacher and devoted fundraiser has announced he will be returning to Uganda again to take on the marathon for the sixth time and check on his charity's progress with several schools.

Steve Hill MBE is the deputy headteacher at St Joseph's School in Shaw and is well-decorated with accolades for his services to education.

He has been crowned Manchester's "teacher of the year" and "most loved community leader" in two separate regional awards ceremonies - and even met the late Queen Elizabeth II when he went to collect his MBE.

Most recently, he received a nod from the Prime Minister when he received the Points of Lights Award all the way from Downing Street.

As the founder of the Team Hill Charitable Trust, Steve is passionate about supporting local and international causes, having raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities at a local level here in Oldham to helping build a school and other facilities for a village in Uganda.

He has travelled all over the world to complete sometimes gruelling and tough challenges, a portion of which is documented in his book, 'What's Next Sir?'

Last summer, Steve took on a mega 'month of marathons' through Costa Rica and Tajikistan during the six-week break from school.

He also popped back to the district of Masaka in Uganda last June to check on his charity's progress in building dormitories for a school and nursery as well as a medical centre.

He said the trip was "magical" and "very special".

Now, Steve has announced he will be taking on a similar project for the summer of 2024 - this time tackling five marathons and five mountains, known as "the ring of fire" in Mongolia and Guatemala, plus another visit to Uganda.

In a few weeks, he said he'll be jet-setting to Uganda once again to get involved in some new community projects in Masaka and take on the Uganda Marathon, where Steve sits as a Chairman on its Board of Trustees, for the sixth time.

Whilst on his trip, Steve will be checking in on the projects that the Team Hill Charitable Trust has been building over the course of the past year at Jomain Midland Academy and the Eunice Medical Centre on Kalangala Island, along with Rhinah Kindergarten and Junior School and Bugabira Primary School.

As usual, he will be collecting old running trainers, sports kits, clothing and stationery to give to the children and the young people at the schools, which can be handed in at St Joseph's primary.

He added: "If anyone has any of these items they'd like to donate, they'll be greatly appreciated.

"A huge thank you, as always, to everyone for your continued support of our Uganda Projects."
