From a fraudster who to a drug dealer to a thief, February saw some criminals in Oldham put behind bars.

The Oldham Times has selected some of the key sentencings which took place last month.

Fraudster targeted older people

A man swindled £5,000 from older people in and around Oldham by pretending to offer a gutter cleaning service but never had any intention to carry out any work.

Between June 2022 and August 2023, Daniel Mather would knock on the door of an older person and offer to clean their gutters, before taking money off his victims despite never having any intention to carry out the work.

In total, Mather, of Longfellow Crescent, Moorside, took around £5,000 from his victims, who were aged between 64 and 85, with his most lucrative offence seeing him swindle one victim, from Oldham, out of £2,850.

At Minshull Street Crown Court on February 21, the 39-year-old was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.

Drug dealer was carrying £20k in cash

A drug dealer was found with almost £20,000 in cash when stopped by a police patrol in Oldham.

Back in September last year, Mitchell Bradley was pulled over in Greenfield and was arrested after police found £19,400 in cash in a shopping bag and his jacket, a Nokia 'burner' phone and an old iPhone.

Investigators found a debtors’ list in the Nokia that suggested Bradley, of Peak Place, Hyde, was linked to drug deals worth more than £130,000.

At Minshull Street Crown Court on February 21, the 25-year-old was sentenced to 45 months, or three years and nine months, in prison.

Thief abused staff at supermarket

A supermarket thief has been jailed for more than two years following a three-month long crime spree.

Daniel May committed 11 separate offences between July 26 and October 24 last year, including assault, shoplifting, burglary and robbery.

Shops he stole from included Boots in Oldham, Sainsbury's in the town centre and the Co-Op in Royton, where he abused staff.

At Minshull Street Crown Court on February 26, he was sentenced to 28 months in prison.
